Shanghai Biennale

Shanghai, the creative showcase for Chinese growth, gives pride of place to contemporary art with its Biennale.

Shanghai, ‘Gateway to the West' for the art market? This is what the Shanghai Biennale has wanted to develop since its inception in 1996. Today, it is clear that the event has consolidated its status, as, edition after edition, it has indisputably become one of ‘the most influential contemporary art biennials from China and beyond Asia'. After debuting at the Museum of Fine Arts, it is now located in the vast spaces of the Power Station of Art, where it hosts art dealers, artists, collectors, and contemporary art lovers. More than 300 works are presented annually, while conferences and workshops explore the year's theme.
