A genuine witness of Lisbon's history, the Palácio da Anunciada has had several lives. Its new incarnation turns this 16th-century Portuguese monument into a five-star hotel of The One group. The renovation has retained the spirit originally infused by Fernão Alves de Andrade (also benefactor of the Our Lady of the Annunciation Church that gave its name to the palace). The Renaissance style of the premises is to be found in the original ceilings and vast gardens (about 2,500 sqm) that shelter a preserved century-old dragon tree. They are now augmented with an outdoor swimming pool lined with Balinese beds. A second pool was installed inside the palace, as well as a spa and sauna. As for the bedrooms, most of which overlook the gardens, period pomp has taken a modern shift. Egyptian cotton sheets on the beds, hand-painted blue and white ceramics on whitened walls… these are just a sample of the 21st-century life of Riley that awaits.
