A few weeks after New Year in the rest of the world, Asia celebrates the Year of the Fire Rooster according to the Chinese lunar calendar. And there's nothing as spectacular as experiencing the Chinese New Year in Beijing! At midnight the sky of the megalopolis lights up with an incredible display of pyrotechnics. The celebration includes parades throughout the streets, with residents in traditional costumes, and a full week of continued celebrations in the city's temples. Many Beijing residents take a few days off at this time to make the most of the celebration. The Lantern Festival, two weeks later, provides the grand finale.
